I have always felt passionate about the food that I cook for my kids and enjoy cooking in general so writing a recipe book was something I constantly had in the back of my mind. However, it did take some time for me to decide to take the plunge and actually put words down on paper!
The Beginning of Our Baby-Led Weaning Journey
We started Baby-Led Weaning (BLW) when the twins were 6 months old. A friend of mine has a son who is three months older than the twins and he was doing so well with Baby-Led Weaning that it piqued my interest and I decided to look into it myself. It made a lot of sense to me as even on the most basic level it meant that busy parents don't have to cook/puree etc one meal for the baby and then prepare another for themselves. Additionally, there were so many developmental benefits to weaning via the Baby-Led method (such as improving hand/eye coordination, pincer grip etc).
My inspiration for writing a book on Baby-Led Weaning
I had read various books and articles but wanted to write my own because although all of these sources were very informative and full of nutritional facts and figures, this large influx of information can be quite overwhelming with so many things to remember. I decided to strip the information down to the most fundamental and important factors that parents need to consider when starting Baby-Led Weaning in the hope that it would make the whole baby-led weaning process more accessible to others. It also helped that I had weaned the twins relatively recently so was able to draw from recent experience.
With the help and support of my friends and family the baby-led weaning book slowly began to come together. Not only does it contain information and tips for busy parents on how to start weaning via the Baby-Led method, but some delicious recipes and a first hand account of our experiences too.
My husband is vegetarian, but I am a meat eater so I incorporated a variety of recipes in the book that have the flexibility to be adapted to suit different families. My husband and I are also both working professionals and as such we understand the time constraints that parents with busy schedules can encounter so I have included "time boost" methods to cut down the preparation time for some of the recipes if you are short of time.
